AN INTERVIEW.
May Marie is a french photographer who loves to work both in colour and black and white.
How did you decide photography was what you want to do?
I started taking pictures when I was 14 years old. At first, I photographed my friends because it was easier for me, and I was young and shy.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I get inspired when I start the photoshoot, I’m inspired by the environment, and often the model inspires me, her/his beauty, attitude or look. I also get inspiration on Tumblr.
Do you work with people you know or with strangers easier and why?
I don’t work with people I know, I don’t like this, I can’t photograph my friends because I know their expectations. When I have photoshoots I don’t know what people want, how they want to look like on my pictures or what their desires are. So it’s easier for me to do what I want and to express myself through the pictures.
Black and white or colour? Whats your choice and why?
I began with colours, but I have many times changed my mind between black and white or colors. I think black and white gives a darker look than color, and give deep to picture.
How have your surroundings influenced your work and your way of thinking?
My surroundings don’t affect me because when I start taking photos I forget my friends, my life. I only think about the model and the landscape.
What are you working on right now?
Now I don’t have a lot of time with my studies but I plan on making a project with Albane D’Argence, a hat designer, we have already made photoshoots together and I also plan to start photographing men or young men because I only had female models.
