Wu Liewei is a Chinese fashion blogger and photographer who likes to take along his friends or models to explore the possibilities of nighttime in the city and see what fun stories his camera can capture. He shoots during the day too, of course.
The use of color is very strong in your work. What color is your favorite color? Or what color would you use for yourself？
Thank you for appreciating the colors of my photographic works! I especially like bright colors, such as red, blue and pink, which can make people excited. I also often use these color collisions in my works to express the psychedelic feeling and atmosphere of my photography.
You usually photograph others. How do you think you would feel if you were to stand in front of the camera？
A few years ago, I was almost invisible to the camera. Because I wanted to disguise myself and show the work. However, in recent years, I feel like I am no longer young, so I often record my funny moments and gradually they will appear in front of the camera, and I am looking forward to more and more photographers shooting me. This must be fun! Or we can clap ^_^
Where do you find inspiration around you？
I tend to watch a lot of niche movies, like Kubrick movies, and I also like to listen to experimental music and electronic music. They give me a lot of fun ideas and inspiration. Of course, most of my inspiration comes from my friends and the wonderful stories that happen in daily life.
What was the weirdest photo session you had ever?
Actually, a lot of things can happen and a lot of fun in the process of filming, such as once when I and a few models were outdoors filming them naked on the mountain, and then a car passed by, the driver found us, thought we were crazy and wanted to report us for using a mobile phone to take our naked photos and post online, we all blocked his face with our hands. It’s fun to think about, but we think we really enjoy the process and the accidents.
You shoot a lot at night. How do you choose what you will shoot and when and where?
I really like to go out at night, because I feel every day at night, the city looks very fun, let a person feel very comfortable, usually, I will invite friends to play together, and they are generally not prepared in advance, we are generally walking while playing, capturing interesting scenes I meet with my camera, I’ll say to my friends “let’s take a few photos”, and then they trust me, and they make some funny poses, and we get those funny pictures.
What would you like to work on in the future?
I have been trying to combine my photography work with fashion and clothes recently, and I want people to wear nice clothes that combine my photography work with art, which is great! I also want to shoot the covers of big brands. I want to do more fun things. I want to do shows in Paris, exhibitions in Paris, etc. I hope everything goes well.
